Les séminaires du centre de recherche Hottopics: The idea is to be better informed about the scientific projects going on in the institute. To achieve this, the talks should present a project in a general manner and give the greater picture of it rather than dwelling on details of beautiful traces, dots or spots. Presenters should be advanced PhD students and more senior research personnel. I think in order for this to work best, attendance should be strongly encouraged. If talks are presented generally and clearly, information can be gained from them even when listening to something "strange". Presentations are in English. The talks should be "concept talks" of 15 minutes (plus 5 minutes for discussion), meaning that one provides the overall picture or grand idea of why this is important and interesting rather than going into too much detail, though it should include the presentation of data of course. Therefore, the platform that suits this kind of talk best is the blackboard chalk talk. At the very least, these talks improve the understanding of"who is working on what" and might even lead to new ideas for collaborations within the institute. Andréas |
